Smelly Cat

You know that I am not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination. Nope, not me. Hubby, on the other hand, usually gets up well before 6am, but if I hear him, I choose to ignore the noise and snuggle deeper under the covers. For some unfathomable reason I woke up early this morning, and rolled out of my warm comfy bed when I heard the cats meowing at the door to be let in. By the time I made my way downstairs, the cats were in and hubby was outside with the dog, yelling at her to come to him. Sticking my head outside I understood the commotion. Our crazy dog was less than three feet away from a skunk, in definite danger of being sprayed. Been there, done that. Not in a mood for a repeat performance. What seemed like an eternity later, the skunk skittered under the shed, and we haven't seen a glimpse of it since. Now, because Pointdexter isn't any brighter than the dog (he's the one that eats worms, after all), he escaped back out when the dog came in and kept sniffing around where the skunk went under the shed, just begging for trouble. So far, so good. At the moment Pointdexter is back in the house, snuggled on my lap, purring softly. And he will remain inside if I have anything to say about it.

As Requested

WTF = Hexagenia limbata Giant Burrowing Mayfly Nymph (click on the link for cool info and picture)

Kitty = Pointdexter: oooh, scratch my chin.... oooh, don't stop....

Hey there, everybody! I'm so cute...

Kitty = Pandora: Let me out there. There's hunting I Must do...(birdies:yum yum)

BTW, Alison? I still have that pot to P!ss in. Turns out the neighbour returned the pot in question and left it at the back door. I take back all those bad things I said about her.

After the Weekend

Weather notwithstanding, hubby and I "ran away from home" sans children and enjoyed a couple fun-filled days in adult company. While the guys fished in the rain, and provided our Sunday breakfast meal of fried rainbow trout (yummy!), us girls shopped, snacked, chatted, and put a nice dent in our wine stock. What else was there to do? When it wasn't raining, the black flies were so horrendous you'd swear they'd carry you away by their sheer numbers and ferocity.
BTW, that there is what the guys found in the trouts' stomachs. Isn't it cute? And it was alive, if you will believe that!

Yesterday I dropped the man/child at his friend's place in New Germany where he will be staying for the week, and hopefully manage to stay out of trouble while having good clean fun. (Yeah, right!) After, I carried on to visit with some neighbours from the old neighbourhood to catch up on gossip, and then carried on to Bridgewater to pick up my new-to-me sewing machines. I am now a proud owner of industrial hemmer and a 5-thread overlock. Let there be power and speed in my sewing room.

Naturally I felt compelled to stop and take a couple pictures during the day's travels. Springfield Lake is so picturesque.

This is New Canada Lake. Notice the pretty blue sky? Why couldn't the weekend have been this nice??

And today the rain is back. Good day to catch up on home sewing.

Pen Pal SWAP

Lookie what I got from my partner of the pen pal SWAP "All about Me". I love the yarn (of course!), the colours are gorgeous.

Have you guys ever heard of "Flat feet? This is my first. A pretty nifty idea: you knit socks directly from this flat piece of knitted fabric. Cool, eh? Gives you an idea what to expect from your knitted item. The other yarn is Fixation in a very pretty pink. Love it! A White Belt Kakuro puzzle book--I'm looking forward to trying that. I like Sudoku, but this has a couple other twists to make it more challenging. And she sent treats too. Check out that trail mix... Yummy! And Endangered Species chocolate: dark chocolate with raspberries. If I didn't know any better, I'd be saying that she went out of her way to send me my favourite things instead of her favourites. Don't you love that knitting magnet? I do. Thank you so much Lisbet!! You're awesome!

EEEEEK!! Freaking ticks.... Just plucked one off my neck! I HATE those things! Creepy the way they bury themselves under the skin. This one was just crawling, and I felt it before it had a chance to dig in. That's what I get for hanging laundry outside. Now I'll be all paranoid that they're crawling all over me for who-knows-how-long. Geez.

Let me finally update you on my knitting. This is my lace sweater that I've been working on for a couple weeks. So far so good. I'm using a baby alpaca/cashmere yarn. Delicious!

Gone

I wish I was just a wee bit more computer savvy. On Friday, it seems that blogger ate my post. When I tried to publish, I got booted out of the system but thought to myself, hey no problem. This thing was saving automatically as I typed happily along. Yeah. Right. This is all that was left after almost two hours of typing my fingers to the bone (not really, but it was a good post, and a long one with pretty pictures too.) :

You Are Teal Green

You are a one of a kind, original person. There's no one even close to being like you.

Expressive and creative, you have a knack for making the impossible possible.

While you are a bit offbeat, you don't scare people away with your quirks.

Your warm personality nicely counteracts and strange habits you may have.

I'm starting to see a trend here. You'd think I had nothing better to do but fill out one silly survey after another.

That is all that was saved. Anyhoo... The quiz came from the Tinks' Daddy. Cool guy. He's got new pics of the adorables up too, so go visit him. They sure grow up fast, don't they. I'll be here when you get back. I'm going to make tea. Speaking of which, have you ever tried Celestial Seasonings true blueberry? It's yummilicious. Honest.

Since my memory is lousy and I can't remember completely what I tried to post before, this one may seem a bit random as I try to fill you in on the happenings.

This here is our new-to-us house. There next to zero landscaping here, but the yard is large and flat(!), and there are some nice sized shrubs and trees on the property. Naturally I plan on changing all that as is evidenced by the photo. Yesterday I spent some time cleaning up that sod off the walk and digging out weeds around the holly bushes. On today's agenda is mutilation of those monsters in front of the picture window. Not total mutilation, just a major downsizing. There is so much to do that every time I step outside and look around, I just don't know where to start.

Hey. I received my first house-warming gift from hubby's aunt. A dwarf burning bush. I've always wanted one! Now, where to plant it?? I have big plans for moving the hollies and those other shrubs away from the house but I am trying to come up with a landscape design first so hubby doesn't throw a fit when he sees me digging stuff up. I already had him take the chainsaw to some of those wire birch from the back yard. Not only were they taking up the centre of the yard, they were shading it too much, too. A veggie garden is going to need lots of sun after all.

Guess what my goofy cats have been doing? They've been staying outside at night and eating worms! Geez. At least I know for sure that that's what Pointdexter has been doing because one time my hubby caught him doing it, and the dirty face is clear evidence when he comes inside in the morning. Thomas (fluffy feet) is the only exception. I don't think he's really settled in so well. He rarely goes outside, and if so, it's only onto the kitchen deck. On the farm he was outside more than he was in. Weird.
Another time, remind me to tell you what I did on Saturday and why taking scenic routes at night is not a good idea.
Cheers.
